Yes, Gothic 1 Remake is a good game, but if you love the jank, the exploration, the challenge and the reward, this game is a must. I know it had a rough start, but nowadays it even runs at a stable 35/40 FPS on the Steam Deck.

I bought Of Ash and Steel more or less on day 1 early on in the game, you meet an NPC who describes in detail what goes into crafting a simple bandage, an item that is very important, as it's one of the only things that can stop you from bleeding(a status that drains your health pretty much until dead) this NPC will not only describe the method of crafting, but also gives you a quest to gather the herbs and supplies…
